The very first generation of the Grand Cherokee was the Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ built in 1993-1998 and was an upgrade to the Jeep Cherokee XJ with some new additions, a V8 motor upgrade and more creature comforts.

The body is significantly more rounded then the XJ and has changed from a leaf spring rear setup to rear coil springs. Although the ZJ model was not that popular, the Grand Cherokee line lived on in the WJ and WK models and is still going strong today.
